Description
Scope and content: The Persian Gulf War series of the Veterans History Project Collection includes materials relating to Nashville area residents and veterans who served in the military or supported the war effort as civilians. This series includes items relating to both Operation Desert Shield (1990) and Operation Desert Storm (1991) and the liberation of Kuwait. Many individuals served in the military prior to or after this conflict, and their interviews can be useful for a study of the armed forces in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
Description
A large quantity of letters to and from John Allyn, spanning Dec. 1990 to Mar. 1991 comprise the bulk of manuscript material in this series. Most correspondence is with his wife and two-year-old son; business associates from his law firm; and church members. Allyn served as an officer with the 332nd Medical Brigade of the Army Reserves. His materials also include a few photographs, a number of cards sent to him by schoolchildren while he was hospitalized in Germany for a routine surgical procedure, Easter cards and greetings, and a DVD containing video footage of his camp area in Saudi Arabia.
Description
Materials relating to other veterans include mostly oral history interviews, and a few photographs or manuscript items.
