Description
Little Dorrit is a miniseries produced by the BBC and WGBH Boston and based on Charles Dickens' serial novel. In Episode 1, Amy Dorrit lives in the Marshalsea Prison for Debt with her father, William Dorrit, who has been an inmate for countless years. Although born and bred in the prison, she has grown up to be an enterprising young woman. As the story begins, she gains employment as a seamstress at the House of Clennam under the stern and formidable Mrs. Clennam, who has been paralyzed and confined to her room for a dozen years. Mrs. Clennam son, Arthur, returns unexpectedly from China after a long absence, bringing news that his father has died. Arthur is convinced that his father died with something on his conscience, but Mrs. Clennam dismisses any suspicion of wrongdoing. Arthur becomes convinced that Amy must be the one whom his father somehow wronged.
