Description
This program features an interview with Albert and David Maysles on what they then (1969) called a new technique of natural movie making, Direct Cinema, as well as excerpts from their first feature length film shot in this technique, The Salesman (about door to door sale of the Bible in working class neighborhoods of Boston). At a time when hand held cameras were not used professionally and could not record synchronous sound, the Maysles developed techniques to make filmmaking far more mobile. They formed a two man crew and followed the salesmen around, an early example of cinema verite.
