Description
Anti-American demonstrations fill the streets of Peshawar, and in Lahore, street merchants draw a direct connection between their poverty, the IMF, and the U.S. Even among the liberal, "Westernized" students at Islamabad's Women's College, anti-American feeling is riding high. What has the U.S. done to alienate so many people in the Muslim world? Is foreign policy solely to blame, or have the values of Pakistan's ruling class also played a part? And although the September 11 attacks were condemned by most Muslims, the fundamentalists now seem to speak for all - how did Islam get hijacked in this way?
