Description
This classic episode of the U.S. Army's The Big Picture television series contrasts Europe of the 1950s with Europe of the 1940s, when most of humanity was fighting on battlefields throughout the continent. During World War II, the United States Army was fighting all over the world. In its aftermath, soldiers are still on alert everywhere, in an attempt to prevent another world war from breaking out. This video from the National Archives and Records Administration, filmed by members of the Army Signal Corps, shows the cliffs and hedgerow and the forests and rivers of France, and contrasts the street fighting with the quiet rebuilding of the cities of Germany.
