Description
On June 18, 1983, Sally Ride became the first American woman to venture into space. While onboard the space shuttle Challenger, Ride acted as flight engineer, launched two communication satellites, operated the shuttle's mechanical arm, and conducted experiments. She returned to space again in 1984.
