As the U.S. representative to the United Nations, Adlai Stevenson demonstrated the nation's evidence that the Soviet Union was positioning offensive nuclear missiles in Cuba. In the Kennedy administration, Stevenson was one of the few voices that argued for diplomacy rather than a strategic strike in Cuba that would disable the missiles.
