On July 2, 1964, President Lyndon Johnson signed the most monumental Civil Rights Act in U.S. history. Afterward, President Johnson gave the pens he used to sign the act to civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and legislators including Senators Everett Dirksen (R, IL) and Hubert Humphrey (D, MN), who were instrumental in ensuring the act's passage.

Description
Since Fidel Castro came to power in 1959, Cuban immigrants to the United States have been given preferential treatment as political refugees. Between 1959 and 1980, more than 1 million Cuban immigrants entered the United States. During the 1980s and 1990s, however, American public opinion of Cuban immigration began to change, and in 1995, the U.S. government restricted the annual number of allowable Cuban immigrants to 20,000.
