Maddux also spent five summers at Albertine's Summer Dance Workshop in Bar Harbor, Me., studying ballet, Spanish, and East Indian or Hindu dancing. She moved back to Nashville to seek support from her family, and in 1993 Dr. William Petrie diagnosed her with bipolar disorder after a sudden manic attack.
