Description
Scope and content: Oral history interview with Margaret Thompson, conducted on 10 and 19 July 1976 by Ophelia Paine as part of the Historic Nashville, Inc. Tennessee Centennial Oral History Project. During the 41 minute interview, Thompson discusses her experiences at the Tennessee Centennial Exposition, including President William McKinley's reaction to his wife's fainting at an Exposition event.

Biographical or Historical Data
Margaret Campbell Lipscomb Thompson was born 14 Aug. 1887 to Louisa Allison and James S. Lipscomb. Thompson was educated at Tarbox School, Fogg High School, and Ward Seminary. In 1911, she married Overton Thompson, and they had two children: Overton Thompson, Jr.; and Margaret Thompson (Mrs. Laird Smith). She was a member of the Colonial Dames; Ladies' Hermitage Association; Review Club; Query Club; auxiliary of the Old Women's Home and Polk Memorial Association; Tennessee Botanical Gardens and Fine Arts Center (Cheekwood); and the Tennessee Historical Society. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Thompson died 2 June 1979 and was interred in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
