Description
Scope and content: A variety of materials documenting various ethnic groups and nationalities in Nashville. Most items date from the early 21st century. Also includes some materials from organizations who assist new residents from other countries, educate the public about languages and cultures, or aid foreign visitors and immigrants in acculturation to the United States and Middle Tennessee in particular. Quantity of materials is generally less than ten items, and most folders often contain only a single item. Contains some photocopies.

Folder headings include: Chinese; Egyptians; Germans; Hispanic and Latino (broadly); Italian; Scottish; and the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute.

Specific materials consist of: a June 22, 2007 issue of the Tennessee Chinese Times, mostly in Chinese, but featuring a number of advertisements in English for professionals and businesses in the Middle Tennessee area; materials relating to a protest on Jan. 19, 2010 by Nashville Egyptians concerning the deaths of Coptic Christians in Egypt; an undated, probably early 20th century or late 19th century, certificate of membership for Charles A. Howell in the Deutschen Familien Bundes of Nashville; items about the Hispanic community in Nashville (2007-2008), including an issue of a bilingual magazine (Spanish and English) entitled eSpanglish!; issue 1 of the "Italian for Fun" newsletter (2011); a program from the 1990 Highland Dance and Gathering of Scottish Clans, the Middle Tennessee Scottish Festival, held at The Hermitage; and a few items from 2007 relating to classes and programs at the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute in Nashville.
