Organization & arrangement of materials
Organization: in folders by page number, as found in the original,Arrangement: numerically by page number.
General Note
Materials housed in Special Collections Division of the Main Library, Nashville Public Library.
General Note
Housed in Small Collections Box 10.
General Note
Preservation and processing note: Materials were originally housed in a Horn's "Pocket-Filing" Library Scrap Book, "Nonpareil," which consisted of pages with three layered pockets per page. These pages allowed materials to be tucked loose inside the pockets, thus avoiding the need for glue or tape. The paper pages were nevertheless highly acidic and did not present a good long term storage solution, and newsclippings were folded and in some cases tearing, as well as deteriorating from age. As part of rehousing the materials for purposes of access and preservation, photocopies of each page in the scrapbook were made prior to removal of items from the scrapbook. All items removed from a single page were rehoused into one or more folders. Page numbers were retained as folder headings and as an organizational scheme. Most newsclippings were photocopied, and the originals discarded due to their poor and fragile condition. Late in this process, older photocopies were discovered in library holdings, which may indicate the original order within the scrapbook may have been disturbed at an unknown date between 1980 and 2008.
