Description
Scope and content: Twenty-two prints of pen-and-ink drawings of historical buildings, residences, the Nashville skyline, and military subjects. Most of the historic buildings are of structures in Nashville, Tenn., although a few prints are of buildings from Franklin, Tenn. The majority of the prints show structures in their historical context, rather than being renderings of their modern surroundings. Prints are a variety of sizes, the smallest being 10 x 22 in. with most averaging around 28 x 22 in. Skylines and military subjects tend to be approximately 18 x 40 in.
Description
Subjects in Nashville, Tenn. include: Residence of Mr. John M. Gray Jr. 314 Vine Street, which was the first official governor's mansion from 1907 to 1923; Southern Turf Saloon 222 N. Cherry St. ca. 1895; Temple K.K. Ohabai Schoelem (Vine Street Temple); the Parthenon; Belmont Mansion; State Capitol; Davidson County Court House; Tennessee State Supreme Court; Eighth Avenue Reservoir, Pump House, and Purification Plant; YWCA Building ca.1911 with Marathon automobile parked in front, and Polk Place and Joseph Horton Fall residence visible in background; house at the corner of Colorado and Murphy Road Northeast; Silver Dollar Saloon and Bookstore; and 516 Russell Street. The collection includes three prints of the Nashville skyline: two are of Nashville in the spring and fall ca. 1995 and are color prints; the third is a black and white pen-and-ink showing a view ca. 1986, prior to the construction of the BellSouth building.
Description
Two prints are of structures in Franklin, Tenn.: Bennett House; and Hiram Lodge No. 7 F&AM, c.1823. Military subjects include the vessels USS Nashville (CL-43) and the battleship USS Tennessee (BB-43) and the B-17 bomber, the Memphis Belle. One print is of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pa.

Biographical or Historical Data
Warren Kirbo was born c.1946 and came to Nashville, Tenn. in 1980. Prior to his arrival in Nashville, he had a varied background, working for an engineering firm, teaching high school math in Camilla, Ga., and serving in the Army in Panama during the Vietnam era. He attended North Georgia College, and received his Master's degree in astronomy. With no formal artistic training, his artistic career began in late 1975 near Camilla, Ga. when he was asked to substitute at an art show, where he had 20 works on display. His highly detailed pen-and-ink drawings gained a following. The vast majority of his work has been done on commission, and features historic buildings or military subjects.
