Description
Scope and content: Seven hand-colored limited edition prints produced in 1979-1980 of historical engravings of various historic buildings and scenes in Nashville, Tenn., signed and numbered by the colorist, and ranging in size from 19 x 25 in. to 22 x 30 in. Steamboat on the Cumberland and Nashville Inn were produced for Nashville's Century III celebration in 1979, and are mayor's proofs, signed by Mayor Richard H. Fulton. Three prints were specially commissioned for the opening of the new Maxwell House Hotel in 1979 and are artist's proofs: the views of Nashville and Union Station, and the Belle Meade deer hunt scene. The Ryman Auditorium print is distinctive in that it is a print of a hand-colored original pen and ink drawing by George B. Kirchner. All other artwork in the collection are prints of historical engravings, hand-colored by George B. or Judy L. Kirchner.
